Bigger Truck Is Good for the Environment

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

According to the study conducted by the Canadian Trucking Alliance-Natural Resources Canada, heavy duty trucks, longer trucks produce lesser harmful emissions and even help in improving highway safety.

Canadian Trucking Alliance-Natural Resources Canada has conducted a two-year study that involves ten trucking fleets from Western Canada and Quebec and the result was really astounding. The alliance have discovered that the use of longer combination vehicles such as turnpike doubles and single can actually reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve highway safety.

Aside from that turnpike doubles could also reduce the number of trucks on the road by six to ten percent basing on the study. For several months, New Brunswick has been involved in a pilot project that utilizes the combination of vehicles consisting of a tractor and two, 16-metre trailers. Sunbury Transport has been operating the trucks between Dieppe and Saint John. The vehicles are operating under a special permit.

The executive director of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, Peter Nelson said that the industry is working toward the reduction of harmful emissions and improving safety. He also added that the reduced emissions resulting from longer trucks, combined with new eco-friendly engines, better quality truck part components that are now being used together with ultra-low-sulphur diesel fuel.

The alliance’s study further shows that approximately 900 million kilometers of truck travel would be saved annually by promoting the use of turnpike doubles, similarly 260 million liters of fuel will also be saved and 730 kilotons of greenhouse gases will be avoided.

The Ford F-350: a Heavy Duty Vehicle

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Ford has always been known to produce large ford trucks. In fact, their F150 pickup truck is the best selling truck of all time. But the F150 is not the only great truck you can find in Ford’s lineup. The Ford F-350 is also one great heavy duty truck which has its own set of good attributes. There are numerous features and capabilities in the F-350 that has attracted truck drivers to come to love the vehicle.

The first thing that will strike you about this truck is its size. The truck is truly designed to take on the heaviest of load. It has a towing capacity of 15,000 pounds which makes gives it the capability to tow trailers, campers, fishing boat, or even livestock. The truck also has amazing off-road driving capability which makes it one of the top choices for any truck driver in town.

The Ford F-350 is available with three different choices of engines - all of which are capable of providing adequate power, as capable as a Volvo vent visor in protecting a car’s interior from snow or rain. Consumers can choose from either a gasoline powered V8, a massive V10 gasoline engine, or a 32-valve 6-liter, PowerStroke turbo-diesel V8 engine with cast iron cylinder block and cylinder head. For the diesel engine, an EVRT system is standard. The electronic variable response turbocharger balances the thrust needed by the wheels. This capability increases the fuel efficiency of the diesel engine.

For those who would want to buy an F-350, there are two gearboxes to choose from - a five-speed automatic transmission and a six-speed manual. To protect the car’s occupants or anything it is hauling, the Ford F-350 is equipped with TBC or the Trailer Brake Controller which balances the braking of the trailer. Disc brakes are also standard across the board; all wheels are fitted with high performance discs and equally high performance pads. The F-350 also has an anti-lock braking system which offers safe braking even on emergencies.

Whether you go for a gasoline or a diesel engine, your Ford F-350 will come with a huge 38-gallon fuel tank which holds enough fuel to feed the hungry horses inside the massive combustion chambers of the three engines. Gas mileage for the F-350 is not revealed though since EPA does not require vehicles such as this to state their gas mileage. This makes sense since most of these vehicles will be used commercially and not just for cruising around town.

The suspension system of the truck which gives it great off-road driving capability is a mono-beam suspension in the front with massive coil springs and an equally massive stabilizer bar. This truck is really made for heavy duty purposes. The rear suspension system is a solid axle with huge leaf springs and another huge stabilizer bar. Both the front and the rear suspension system sports heavy-duty gas-pressured shock absorbers. The configuration of the suspension system gives the Ford F-350 a responsive steering and a good stability.

The ride though is quite another story. Just like other pickup trucks, the ride may be stiff if the truck bed is empty but once it is loaded the truck gives an exceptionally smooth ride.

The interior of the truck also looks great and almost luxurious. This is because of the leather trimmings, its sun roof and other features one would commonly find in a luxury car. The black leather bucket seats are the most notable feature of the cabin of the truck which gives it an aura of luxury. The controls and the instrument panel are designed with convenience in mind. The truck may be designed for heavy duty jobs but the interior design also ensures comfort and sophistication.

Aura’s CEO, said, We are pleased with the Isuzu announcement and are looking forward to a long mutually beneficial relationship with Isuzu not only for transport refrigeration applications but also for other applications where mobile power is required for compressors and other inductive type loads. It is clear that the Aura Gen solution has the potential to revolutionize the mid size refrigeration trucks industry.

The elimination of the extra diesel engine provides large fuel savings to the fleet owners and helps the environment as well. A typical diesel engine used to power refrigeration trucks consumed about 0.7 gallons of diesel fuel per operating hour and generates emissions of approximately 230 kilograms of Nitrous Oxides, 200 kilograms of Carbon Monoxide and 25 kilograms of Particulate Matter per year.

Vice president, fleet operations and marketing, Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, said, This is a revolutionary breakthrough enabling the refrigerated transportation industry to switch from traditional diesel to an all electric system. Fleets can reduce their costs dramatically and help our environment at the same time. Isuzu low cab forward trucks are distributed through 205 Isuzu truck dealers and 350 GM W-Series dealers nationwide, only Freightliner Trucks company has compare to  Isuzu refrigerated transportation. Over 84 percent ofall Isuzu built trucks registered in the U.S. since 1984 are still on the road today.

Cadillac Escalade ESV Models

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Cadillac Escalade ESV Like a multi carat ring paraded on the finger of an NBA wife, some things are just so damn shiny and flashy that they don’t require a formal introduction. Whether due to overwhelming size or a high blinding factor, there’s just no escaping the brilliance. This was the case with the Cadillac Escalade ESV and EXT models that were officially, yet unceremoniously, unveiled at the North American  International Truck Show in Detroit. There was no press conference rally, no fireworks the sharp new look, generous use of chrome, and lustrous black paint said all that needed to be said.

Following the recent debut of the Cadillac Escalade, the Chevrolet Suburban based ESV adds 21 inches of length to the regular model and hits the market with the same fresh face, accented by vertically stacked bright head-light housings and an expansive chrome grille inspired by the Cadillac Sixteen concept car. As with its Chevy Trucks Suburban and GMC Yukon XL, the Escalade ESV features all new body work marked with sharp and clean lines, tighter gap tolerances, hidden rocker panels, vents cut into the front fenders & unique running boards. If the new looks and blinding use of chrome isn’t enough, the Cadillac Escalade ESV distinguishes itself with a 403 horse power V8 that should excite valet attendants every where.

Chevrolet Suburban(unlike their counterparts Ford, Kenworth Trucks), albeit one with Cadillac Escalade ESV badging, added luxury features, and that 403 horse power engine stuffed under the hood. Unlike the offerings from Chevy and GMC, this Caddy seats a maximum of eight passengers rather than nine, and is available in only one all wheel drive trim. With the second & third row bench seats folded, the Escalade ESV’s 137.4 cubic foot cargo area can accommodate an abundant load. In the realm of luxury SUVs, the ESV faces little competition in terms of space and utility.

Isuzu i280 launched in 2006

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Isuzu launched new pickups last year, the 2006 i280 & i350. No cheers, no applause, no emotion or response to speak of. That moment during the 2005 Detroit Auto Show could be characterized by one word thud. Reasons for such a pathetic response are numerous, but most revolve around the fact that the Isuzu trucks may be the lamest example of rebadging to date. Based on the unimpressive and uncompetitive Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon twins, the i-Series trucks wear a unique grille, specific stick on badges and here’s a stretch, center hubcap covers and a steering wheel cover that read Isuzu. Even the head-lights & tail-lights are the same. Apparently management’s recipe for success is to have the GM delivery truck stop off at the scant scattering of Isuzu dealers with a few pickups and some boxes of click on parts and stickers.

Isuzu Trucks For SaleThere is one saving grace. All 2006 Isuzu i-Series pickup sold only in tens not in hundreds, is backed by a 3 year/50,000 mile basic warranty and seven years or 75,000 miles of powertrain coverage, with rust through protection for five years or 100,000 miles. And base prices for the i-280 and i-350 are lower than equivalent Chevy Trucks and GMC Canyons, despite recent price reductions on both General Motors models.

Now they competes like exact models, the Isuzu i-Series pickup comes equipped with one of two engines. The base i-280 model, available in extended cab guise only, features a 2.8 liter, dual overhead cam, 16 valve, four cylinder engine offering a respectable 175 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 185 lb.ft. of torque at 2,800 rpm. A standard five speed manual transmission delivers power to the rear wheels, though a four speed automatic is optional. EPA fuel economy is rated at 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for the manual and 17/23 mpg for the automatic. Each Isuzu i-280 rides on an independent front suspension and live rear setup with leaf springs, with stopping power provided from front vented discs and rear drums. Steering is of the power rack & pinion variety.

Isuzu Trucks i-280 S models, starting at $17,649 including a $660 destination charge, feature 15 inch alloy wheels riding on General 225/75 tires, anti lock brakes, air conditioning, a basic AM/FM radio, rear step up bumper, cruise control, tilt steering, and a locking tailgate. The i-280 LS, with a base price of $19,649, adds rear jump seats, cloth seats and carpeting, CD and MP3 players, power mirrors, manual lumbar support for the driver, and floor mats. The base S model can be ordered with the Preferred Equipment Package, including an upgraded radio, carpeting, rear jump seats, floor mats, and cloth seats. LS buyers have the option of the LS Package, with power windows and door locks, upgraded cloth seats and interior trim, and more or the Luxury Package and its side curtain airbags, locking rear differential, traction control, leather steering wheel, 6 disc CD changer, sliding rear window, and other luxurious features.

Isuzu Trucks For SaleDrivers wanting a bit more space and four wheel drive functionality will need to look at the 2006 Isuzu i-350. This crew cab pickup is powered by a 3.5 liter, dual overhead cam, 20 valve, five cylinder engine pushing 220 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and cranking out 225 lb.ft. of torque at 2,800 rpm through a four speed automatic transmission. All i-350 comes equipped with that tranny, a four wheel drive system with a two speed transfer case and automatic locking hubs and LS badging as well as an independent torsion bar front suspension and a live rear with leaf springs. The EPA rates fuel economy at 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. In addition to the standard features found on the i-280 LS, the Isuzu i-350 adds a locking rear differential, power windows and door locks, a 60/40 split folding rear bench seat, skid plates, and side curtain airbags, all for the asking price of $28,018, including the $660 destination charge. A imited Package adds leather seats, a 6 disc CD changer, front power and heated seats, an exterior temperature gauge and compass, and a sliding rear window.

2007 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

As a follow up to the release of last year’s half ton 2007 Chevy Silverado HD Trucks(2007 Truck of the Year),GM now releases the rugged three quarter and one ton pickup versions, with many of the same exterior and interior design cues.

You’ll notice a familiar look to the hood and body panels between half ton and heavy duty trucks. Engine choices are simplified to include one gas and one turbo diesel motor. The new Gen-IV OHV 6.0-liter V-8, now with variable valve timing, produces 353 horsepower and 373 pound feet of torque. This engine gets the new 6L90 six speed automatic transmission(a stronger version of the Escalade and Yukon Denali 6L80-E). A revised 6.6-liter Duramax turbo diesel V-8 remains the tool of choice for more than 60 percent of heavy duty trucks buyers.

Of course, to meet the new 2007 federal emissions regulations, there’s a sophisticated series of new particulate filters that collect soot and other pollutants. These improvements allow the Duramax to offer a segment-leading 365 horsepower and 660 pound feet of torque, but it’s at a significant cost. The diesel engine has a price tag of $7195. Tack on another $1200 for the mandatory Allison 1000 six speed tranny, retuned to keep the shifts between gears(up and down) smooth yet solid. As you’d expect, the system has a “Tow/Haul” button to hold gears and help with braking when loaded, plus both transmissions offer a “thumb shifter” for manual gear selections.

Almost as impressive as the powertrain, the interiors are upgraded to look identical to those in the smaller half tons. HD interiors have three trim levels (WT, LT, and LTZ), and two dash layouts (Pure American Pickup and Luxury Inspired). Other features include the extended cabs that offer the 170 degree, dual hinge rear doors, and the rear seats (Extended and Crew Cabs) that fold into the seatbacks. HDs will offer three bed sizes, five wheelbases, three cab models, two different suspension packages (including a new Z71 choice in 4×4 or 4×2), single and dual rear wheel options, and pricing starting from $24,575. Made for work, the HDs can carry between 2294 and 5307 pounds, with a max Transcraft trailers capacity of 16,000 pounds (for a fifth wheel). Heavy Duty, indeed.

Trucks For Sale - By Owner.

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Selling your Used Trucks ? It’s important to keep in mind that prospective used trucks buyers evaluate the person selling the care almost as much, if not more, than they examine the truck it self. In order to win their interest and their trust it is crucial that you should make a good impression. Wherever possible, Strive make your prospective customers feel comfortable and be open in your response to their inquiries.

Be ready to answer their questions as soon as prospective buyers start calling. Answer questions posed over the phone honestly in an effort to prepare callers for what to expect when they see the truck. This works to save both you and the customer a lot of time and work by making only those appointments that have a reasonable chance of becoming a sale. Further more, strive to make appointments with each customer for a specific time, rather than leaving them to some vague time such as after work, or Week End.

Remember that making an appointment when selling a trucks increases the chances of the buyers showing up. Don’t feel obligated to wait for a late customer. To help things go smoothly, request a contact number (preferably a cell phone) and take it in stride if some prospective buyers don’t show. Cancellations, with or without notice, are simply part of the process.

It should be expected that any potential buyer will ask to test drive the car. Ride along with them so you can answer questions, as well as ensure the safety of the automobile. There is also the possibility that the customer may not be familiar with the area, so riding along with them allows you to serve as a guide.

Some of the buyers are likely to want to have the truck inspected by a mechanic. If a mechanic has already checked it, this is the right time to show that paper work. This is a reasonable request in any transaction such as buying or selling a Trucks. You can deal on  any of the branded used trucks like Ford Trucks, Chevy Trucks, Ottawa Trucks, Oshkosh Trucks, Isuzu Trucks, Hino Trucks, Lafrance Trucks, Freightliner Trucks, Gmc Trucks, etc.

Protect Yourself :-
It is important to be cautious and to take steps to ensure your safety and the safety of your interests. For example, holding onto a buyer’s driver’s license is a reasonable safeguard if a buyer insists on going on a test drive by his or herself. If the buyer has a problem with this arrangement there’s a very good chance that allowing an unsupervised test drive would go against your best interests. On the other hand, it’s not unreasonable for a buyer to want the truck checked by a different mechanic if it has already been checked by yours. Be prepared to go with the flow a little bit, and you are more likely to get a sale.
